11th Grade Checklist For College Admission

October

1. Sign up and take the PSAT.
2. Have a counselor evaluate your transcript for college preparation.
3. Make sure you are taking the correct classes for college bound students.
4. Attend College Information Day.

November

1. Talk with other college bound students for information on college choices and opportunities.
2. Talk with family, counselors, friends about your plans; and how they might help you.
3. Use the My Planner section on eureka.org to keep a list of colleges and careers that appeal to you.

December

1. Use EUREKA on CD or go to eureka.org and visit college web sites to learn more about colleges that interest you and to request catalogs or other information about the school.
2. Visit college campuses during semester break.
3. Develop a plan of action to address any areas that you feel need improvement for you to gain admissions to colleges that interest you.

January

1. Discuss areas where you need to improve with your counselor and teachers.
2. Review your PSAT scores with your math and English teachers.
3. Plan a strategy for getting the SAT I scores you want. (Your strategy could include a review of test taking skills and practice on specific skills areas.)

February & March

1. Register for the SAT I and SAT 11 /ACT
2. Choose your top 5 colleges.
3. Plan visits (if feasible), and collect information on each college.
4. Use eureka.org and talk to people that are involved in a career that interests you to gain more in-depth knowledge about that career.

April & May

1. Visit distant colleges during Spring break. (Some colleges can arrange for you to stay over night in the dorms for your visit.)
2. Review your SAT I scores and GPA with your counselor to determine your eligibility.
3. Attend college fairs that are offered at your school or in your area.
4. Have transcripts evaluated for college requirements.

May - August

1. Continue to collect information on your top colleges and career choices.
2. Talk to graduating seniors. Seniors become college freshmen and are a great source of information. Additionally, they may be open to assisting you in a campus visit in early fall.
